Healthy Homemade Crockpot Apple Sauce
I always remember my mom serving apple sauce with pork roast when I was growing up. I guess you could say I am kid at heart, because I still love apple sauce just as much as kiddos do. ;)
I created this because my son is an applesauce fanatic and I didn't love the taste or ingredients in store bought versions. This tastes SOOO much better! And you know exactly what is in it. MOM WIN. And a bonus, your house will smell amazing as it cooks!
Here is what you will need:
-8 to 9 cups of apples (approx. 13 medium apples)
-1 tsp fresh lemon juice
-1 slice of lemon peel
-2 cinnamon sticks (optional but we like the cinnamon flavor!)
-1 to 3 tsp of honey (depending on how tart the apples are that you are using, I only used 1)
That is it!
How to make it:
Peel your apples (like seen below.) Then you will chop them, removing cores and stems.
Add your chopped apples, lemon juice, lemon peel, cinnamon sticks and honey to your crock pot (like below.)
Let them cook for 4 hours on LOW. Once they are done, they will be soft (like below).
If you like your applesauce smooth like we do, throw them into a food processor or blender and blend them until smooth.
If you like your applesauce more on the chunky side, I recommend just mashing them with a potato masher.
Like I said earlier, this tastes amazing served with pork. It is also yummy to put on top of ice cream, yogurt or cottage cheese.
ENJOY!
